The Bison 5-9/16" Mega Duty 42" x 72" Perforated Steel Playground Basketball System PR79 is a permanent fixed height outdoor basketball system built around two specific engineering decisions: a BA472PC 42" x 72" perforated steel backboard with triple bent safety edges and a heavy tubular rear framework, and a BA39U Ultimate playground goal carrying the first and still the only unconditional lifetime replacement warranty on a basketball goal. Mounted on a BA780 Mega-Duty 5-9/16" O.D. hot dip galvanized steel gooseneck pipe buried 48" into the ground, with a selectable 72" or 96" safe play area at checkout. No height adjustment. A fully specified, ready-to-install permanent outdoor basketball system backed by Bison's strongest goal warranty available.
The defining backboard on the PR79 is the BA472PC 42" x 72" perforated steel backboard, a design Bison specifically describes as popular on inner city playgrounds. The BA472PC is built from 12 gauge steel skin with a heavy tubular rear framework mounted to the back of the board for excellent playability. Where some steel backboards use lightweight rear framing that allows the board to flex under impact, the BA472PC's heavy tubular rear framework provides the structural rigidity that sustained hard outdoor play on a public court demands. All edges on the 12 gauge skin are triple bent, a three-step edge treatment that simultaneously eliminates sharp edges for player safety and increases the rigidity and durability of the backboard perimeter. The white powder coated finish is applied across the full perforated surface for long-term outdoor weather resistance. The BA472PC carries a 10-year limited warranty.
One of the most practical long-term advantages of the BA472PC perforated steel backboard is a detail that most buyers do not consider until they are maintaining an outdoor court years after installation: there is no painted-on shooter's square or border to wear off. On solid steel and clear board systems, the shooter's square and border are applied as paint or print directly to the backboard surface. On outdoor playground courts subject to years of weather exposure, direct UV, moisture, physical contact, and deliberate abrasion, painted markings fade and wear away. The BA472PC's perforated pattern defines the playing surface visually without relying on painted markings that degrade over time. The backboard looks and performs the same in year ten as it does in year one, with no repainting required.
Every PR79 ships with Bison's BA39U Ultimate playground goal, and the warranty behind it is a specific and confirmed distinction: Bison describes the BA39U as carrying the first and still the only unconditional lifetime replacement warranty on a basketball goal. The BA39U is built for the toughest playground applications with a double 5/8" solid steel rim design, 3/16" x 1" No-Fail netlocks that add strength to the goal and eliminate netlock breakage, and a 3/16" thick box-style backplate and rim supports. The traditional orange powder coated finish is durable and baked on. A premium nylon net and high tensile strength mounting hardware are included standard. The BA39U accepts optional chain nets for courts where nylon net replacement frequency is a maintenance concern. On a permanently installed outdoor court where the goal absorbs the daily cumulative impact of playground use for the life of the installation, an unconditional lifetime replacement warranty on the goal is the strongest assurance available in the Bison outdoor lineup.
The PR79 is built on Bison's BA780 Mega-Duty 5-9/16" O.D. round steel gooseneck pipe with a hot dip galvanized coating. Hot dip galvanizing immerses the entire steel pipe in molten zinc, bonding a uniform protective layer to every surface inside and out. The result is long-term corrosion resistance that is specifically engineered for the outdoor exposure conditions of public parks, school yards, and recreational facilities where the system will be permanently installed across decades of weather and daily use. The pipe is buried a full 48" into the ground in a permanent concrete anchor, with heavy 1-5/8" backboard braces providing structural rigidity between the extension arm and the backboard mount. The BA780 pole structure carries a Lifetime limited warranty.
The PR79 is available with a selectable safe play area at checkout. The standard configuration provides a 72" safe play area from the pole to the active playing zone, the same clearance standard built into every Mega Duty gooseneck system in the lineup. For courts where additional clearance beyond 72" is required by facility safety guidelines, site layout constraints, or institutional specifications, the 96" extended safe play area is available as a direct checkout option via the PR79XL configuration. Both configurations carry the full PR79 system specification; the only difference is the extension arm length between the pole and the backboard mount.
Both configurations share the same BA780 hot dip galvanized gooseneck pipe, 48" in-ground bury, heavy 1-5/8" backboard braces, BA472PC perforated steel backboard, BA39U Ultimate goal with unconditional lifetime replacement warranty, and truck shipping. The only difference is safe play area setback length.
The standard PR79 configuration with a 72" safe play area. Full BA780 Mega-Duty gooseneck platform, 48" in-ground bury, BA472PC perforated steel backboard, and BA39U Ultimate goal. Best for outdoor playground courts where 72" player clearance meets facility safety requirements and the standard configuration is the right fit for the court layout.
The extended PR79XL configuration with a 96" safe play area. Same full BA780 Mega-Duty gooseneck platform, 48" in-ground bury, BA472PC perforated steel backboard, and BA39U Ultimate goal. Best for outdoor courts where facility safety standards, site layout, or institutional specifications require extended player clearance beyond the standard 72".
The PR79 is available with optional BA700PP pole padding as an add-on at the time of purchase. For public playground courts with active daily use by players of all ages, pole padding protects players from direct contact with the gooseneck pipe during live play. Ordering the BA700PP at the time of purchase is significantly easier than sourcing and fitting it after the system is permanently installed in concrete.
The BA780 pole structure carries a Lifetime limited warranty. The BA472PC perforated steel backboard carries a 10-year limited warranty. The BA39U Ultimate goal carries Bison's unconditional lifetime replacement warranty, the first and still the only warranty of its kind on a basketball goal. All warranties cover damage during normal and intended use as determined by Bison, except the unconditional goal warranty which removes the normal use limitation for the goal itself. Bison residential basketball equipment is not warranted for commercial or institutional use. For facilities where players pay an individual or group fee to use the equipment, Bison products carry no warranty except for obvious manufacturing defects. Vandalism damage is excluded from all Bison warranty coverage. Contact our team before purchasing if your installation is for a pay-to-play facility.

All Bison products are warranted against manufacturing defects at the time of delivery. In addition, most products are covered by warranty periods stated in the description of the product. Where listed as “limited”, warranties cover damage or failure that occurs during the course of “normal or intended use” of the warranted product. Normal or intended use is described as activity that is necessary for the participation in the sport for which the equipment is designed.
Bison Limited Warranties do not cover any damage or failure that is the direct or indirect result of any use that is not deemed in the sole discretion of Bison to be “normal and intended use”. When warranties are stated as “unconditional” or “unconditional replacement”, the above stated limitations do not normally apply except in cases where damage was obviously the result of a malicious act of vandalism.
Where no specific length or type of warranty is listed in the catalog, the product is warranted to be free from manufacturer’s defects and for the intended purpose at the time of shipment. Whether or not stated as such, all Bison warranties allow Bison to repair or replace warranted products at Bison’s sole option. Normal deterioration of products due to weather, wear and tear, or other causes that do not affect functional use are not covered by Bison warranties, regardless of type of stated warranty.
All warranties are valid only when product is used in the intended application as outlined in Bison’s printed literature, when installed according to Bison’s instructions and when matched with compatible components as described in Bison’s literature. Under no circumstances will Bison Residential Basketball Equipment be warranted for commercial or institutional use.
Due to the abusive nature of pay-to-play facilities, unless specifically agreed to in writing, Bison products carry no warranty except for obvious manufacturing defects when used in a facility where players pay an individual or group fee to use Bison equipment.
Bison will pay ground freight only to repair or replace defective merchandise. Unless otherwise stated, Bison will not assume any liability for labor costs incurred for removal or replacement of product replaced or repaired under warranty.
