Perforated Steel: The Wind-Load Solution for Outdoor Courts
A solid steel backboard presents a full, uninterrupted surface to wind. On outdoor courts in exposed locations, parks on open ground, school yards without windbreak structures, or any facility subject to sustained or gusting high winds, that full surface area translates into significant lateral load on the pole, anchor, and concrete foundation. The BA874's 42" x 72" perforated steel backboard addresses this directly. The perforation pattern allows wind to pass through the backboard surface rather than pushing against it as a solid panel, meaningfully reducing the wind load transferred to the pole and anchor without compromising the steel backboard's structural integrity, outdoor durability, or resistance to vandalism and impact damage. For courts where solid steel is the right material for durability but wind exposure makes a fully solid panel impractical, the perforated steel backboard is the correct engineering choice. The white powder coated finish is applied across the full perforated surface for long-term outdoor weather resistance.
6" Square 3/16" Wall Pole and Extension Arm: 40" Ground Bury
Like every system in the Bison Ultimate fixed height lineup, the BA874 is built on a 6" square 3/16" wall pole and extension arm buried a full 40" into the ground. This is the same structural foundation used on the BA872 Double-Sided and BA873 Clear Board systems, engineered for the lateral load demands of a full 42" x 72" regulation backboard on a permanent outdoor installation. At 525 lbs, the BA874 is a serious permanent system that ships by truck and requires proper concrete anchor preparation and professional installation before assembly begins.
60" Setback Standard with Optional 72" Extended Setback
Like the BA873, the BA874 offers a selectable safe play area setback at the time of purchase. The standard configuration provides a 60" setback from the pole to the active playing zone. For courts where additional clearance is required by facility safety standards or site layout, the extended 72" setback is available by ordering the BA870AXL extension upgrade. Both setback lengths carry the full BA874 system specification with the only difference being the extension arm length between the pole and the backboard mount.
Setback note: Select the 72" setback option at checkout via the BA870AXL extension if your facility requires clearance beyond the standard 60". Changing the setback after the pole is permanently buried is not practical. Contact our team if you are unsure which setback length is right for your court layout.
Ultimate Fixed Goal: Unconditional Lifetime Warranty
Every BA874 ships with Bison's Ultimate fixed goal (BA39U) as standard. Steel board systems across the Bison Ultimate fixed height lineup come standard with the Ultimate fixed goal rather than an outdoor breakaway goal. The Ultimate goal carries Bison's unconditional lifetime warranty, the strongest goal warranty in the entire Bison lineup, removing the normal use limitation that applies under Bison's standard Limited Warranty. For a permanently installed outdoor system on a demanding court, an unconditional lifetime warranty on the goal is a meaningful long-term assurance.
Warranty clarification: The unconditional lifetime warranty applies specifically to the Ultimate goal. The pole, extension arm, and backboard are covered under Bison's standard warranty terms. Optional Backboard and Pole Padding
The BA874 offers optional backboard and pole padding available as add-ons at the time of purchase. For outdoor courts with active daily use by players of all ages, padding is a meaningful safety upgrade protecting players from direct contact with the pole and backboard edges during live play. Ordering padding at the time of purchase is significantly easier than retrofitting after the pole is permanently set in concrete.

For facilities where players pay an individual or group fee to use the equipment, Bison products carry no warranty except for obvious manufacturing defects. Warranty
All Bison products are warranted against manufacturing defects at the time of delivery. In addition, most products are covered by warranty periods stated in the description of the product. Where listed as “limited”, warranties cover damage or failure that occurs during the course of “normal or intended use” of the warranted product. Normal or intended use is described as activity that is necessary for the participation in the sport for which the equipment is designed.
Bison Limited Warranties do not cover any damage or failure that is the direct or indirect result of any use that is not deemed in the sole discretion of Bison to be “normal and intended use”. When warranties are stated as “unconditional” or “unconditional replacement”, the above stated limitations do not normally apply except in cases where damage was obviously the result of a malicious act of vandalism.
Where no specific length or type of warranty is listed in the catalog, the product is warranted to be free from manufacturer’s defects and for the intended purpose at the time of shipment. Whether or not stated as such, all Bison warranties allow Bison to repair or replace warranted products at Bison’s sole option. Normal deterioration of products due to weather, wear and tear, or other causes that do not affect functional use are not covered by Bison warranties, regardless of type of stated warranty.
All warranties are valid only when product is used in the intended application as outlined in Bison’s printed literature, when installed according to Bison’s instructions and when matched with compatible components as described in Bison’s literature. Under no circumstances will Bison Residential Basketball Equipment be warranted for commercial or institutional use.
Due to the abusive nature of pay-to-play facilities, unless specifically agreed to in writing, Bison products carry no warranty except for obvious manufacturing defects when used in a facility where players pay an individual or group fee to use Bison equipment.
Bison will pay ground freight only to repair or replace defective merchandise. Unless otherwise stated, Bison will not assume any liability for labor costs incurred for removal or replacement of product replaced or repaired under warranty.
Return Policy
No merchandise may be returned without prior authorization by calling 800-247-7668. Merchandise returned without a return authorization number will be held for no more than 10 days at which time all return credit is forfeited. Upon receipt of request for return, an authorization number will be issued by Bison and must appear on all return shipping labels. All returns must be shipped prepaid (UPS, FedEx or truck only) to 1100 SW 6th Street, Lincoln NE 68522. DO NOT RETURN BY U.S. POSTAL SERVICE. Collect returns will not be accepted.
Credit for defective merchandise will be issued only when Bison Inc inspection department determines the merchandise to be covered by Bison Inc warranty. All salable merchandise returned is subject to a minimum 35% restocking charge and all freight costs with a minimum restocking charge of $100. Due to their custom design, scoring tables and wall padding are not returnable. Sports nets are not returnable once opened.
These conditions and terms supersede any that may appear on a purchase order. Possession of price list or catalog does not constitute an offer to sell.
