The First Team Storm Portable Basketball System is a heavy-duty institutional portable designed for gymnasiums, fieldhouses, multipurpose facilities, and recreational complexes that need serious daily-use build quality, a flexible extension arm, and a choice of backboard configurations to match their program's exact needs and budget.
The Storm offers four distinct backboard configurations — two backboard sizes in either acrylic or tempered glass. Every configuration shares the same heavy-duty Storm platform, the same adjustable extension arm, and the same direct-to-arm goal mounting design. The only difference between them is the backboard size and material. This makes the Storm the most flexible option in the First Team portable lineup for facilities that want to choose exactly the right backboard for their program without compromising on the mechanical quality of the system underneath.
Unlike the Hurricane and Tempest which have fixed extension distances, the Storm features an adjustable overhang extension from 54" to 66". This means you can position the backboard closer to or further from the base depending on your court dimensions, sideline space, or facility layout. For multi-use facilities that configure their floor differently for different events, this flexibility is genuinely useful.
Like all First Team portables, the Storm mounts the goal directly to the extension arm rather than the backboard. Every dunk, hang, and hard rim impact is absorbed by the steel arm rather than transferred into the backboard material. Over years of daily institutional use, this design decision protects your backboard and extends the life of the system significantly regardless of which backboard configuration you choose.
The Storm is engineered for the realities of heavy daily use in busy facilities. Height adjusts from 6 ft to 10 ft using a spring-assisted design that one person can operate easily. Safety padding covers the front, sides, and back of the base as standard. The system rolls easily on non-marking casters for repositioning and storage. Free custom lettering on the base pad is available upon request — a nice touch for schools and programs that want their name on their equipment.
The Storm is available in four types based on backboard size and material. All four share the same Storm platform, adjustable extension arm, and direct rim mount design.
The entry-level Storm configuration. A 36" x 60" acrylic backboard delivers durable, consistent recreational performance at the most accessible price in the Storm lineup. Best for recreational programs and facilities where budget is the primary consideration and competition-grade glass is not required.
Steps up to a 36" x 60" tempered glass backboard for superior rebound response and a more premium playing experience, while keeping the smaller backboard footprint of the Select. Best for facilities that want glass performance without the larger 72" board size.
Upgrades to a full regulation-size 42" x 72" acrylic backboard — the same dimensions as a competition board — at an accessible price. Best for facilities that need a full-size backboard for serious recreational and upper-level league play without stepping up to glass.
The top Storm configuration. A full regulation-size 42" x 72" tempered glass backboard delivers the best rebound performance, clarity, and durability available in the Storm lineup. Best for facilities running serious upper-level recreational and institutional play that want glass performance at a competitive price point.
