The First Team Tempest Triumph Portable Basketball System is a serious institutional-grade portable goal built for upper-level recreational, club, and intramural basketball programs that demand competition-quality build and glass backboard performance without requiring a full sanctioned competition specification. It delivers First Team's legendary engineering and the same FT235 competition glass backboard as the Hurricane in a more compact, easier-to-maneuver footprint designed for facilities where storage space and gym floor real estate matter.
The Tempest shares the same core DNA as First Team's flagship Hurricane portable. Same FT235 competition glass backboard. Same direct-to-extension-arm goal mounting. Same institutional-grade safety padding, non-marking wheels, and forklift-ready base. The key distinction is the extension arm. Where the Hurricane extends 96" from base to backboard, the Tempest extends 66" from base to backboard, making it a more compact system that is easier to maneuver, easier to store, and better suited for facilities where floor space is at a premium.
Every Tempest Triumph ships with First Team's FT235 42" x 72" tempered glass backboard — a full regulation-size board that delivers the rebound performance, clarity, and durability that serious basketball programs expect. The bolt-on Tuffguard backboard padding protects both the board and players from impact and is included as standard on every unit.
Most portable systems in this category mount the goal directly to the backboard, meaning every dunk, hang, and hard rim impact sends stress directly into the glass. The Tempest Triumph is engineered differently. The goal mounts directly to the extension arm, completely decoupling the rim from the backboard. The FT196 Full-Tilt 180-degree breakaway rim absorbs rim impacts further, protecting both the system and your players over years of daily institutional use.
The Tempest Triumph features a 46" safe play area at regulation height. NCAA sanctioned competition requires a minimum of 48" safe play area for portable systems. As a result, the Tempest is not recommended for use in NCAA or NFHS sanctioned competition play. It is purpose-built for upper-level recreational, club, intramural, and practice environments where competition-grade build quality and glass performance are desired without the sanctioned competition requirement. If your facility requires a portable certified for sanctioned high school or college competition, please see the First Team Hurricane Triumph instead.
The Tempest Triumph is designed for the realities of daily institutional use. Heavy foam padding covers the front, sides, and back of the base unit. The system rolls on 8" diameter non-marking wheels that protect your gym floor during repositioning. 5" non-marking foot pads lock the unit firmly into the play position. Forklift pockets in the base make transport straightforward for facilities teams. First Team also includes free custom lettering on the base pad upon request — a meaningful touch for schools and programs that want their name on their equipment.
The Tempest Triumph is available in three types. The only difference between them is whether floor anchor tie-downs are included and what type of floor they are designed for. All three are identical in every other specification.
The base configuration. Includes the full Tempest Triumph system with competition glass backboard, all padding, and non-marking wheels. No floor anchor tie-downs included. Best for facilities that do not require the system to be anchored to the floor during play.
Identical to the base Triumph with the addition of optional tie-down anchors for standard floors. Best for facilities with standard hardwood or sport court floors where anchoring the system during high-intensity play provides added stability and peace of mind.
Identical to the base Triumph with the addition of optional tie-down anchors specifically designed for floating floors. Best for facilities with floating hardwood floors where standard floor anchors are not appropriate and a floating-floor-specific anchor system is required to avoid floor damage.
